Quality, health, safety and environment
Much of our work takes place on operating sites, including fuel stations and depots, where an unsafe act reaches far beyond our own team. Our management system is built for that.
What we commit to
Our QHSE policy applies without exception to every employee, subcontractor, supplier and visitor: at head office, in the workshop and on every site.
Safety at work
Every site and workstation is assessed before work begins. We provide and enforce the right protective equipment, inspect scaffolding and access before use, and control lifting, transport and road risk.
Health
A workplace free of drugs and alcohol, fitness for duty checked for each role, trained first-aiders and stocked first-aid kits on every site, and attention to mental as well as physical wellbeing.
Environment
Waste segregated and disposed of correctly, spills controlled, materials used efficiently and recycled, and energy and water consumption kept down.
Quality
Work delivered to specification, on time and within budget. Every non-conformance is investigated to its root cause and corrected so it does not recur.
Human rights and ethics
Fair and respectful treatment of every employee, subcontractor and supplier, a workplace free of discrimination and harassment, and confidentiality in our clients’ affairs.
Subcontractors and suppliers
Partners are selected and retained on their HSE performance as well as their price, held to the same commitments as our own staff, and declared to the client.
Climate action
We measure and reduce the emissions of our operations and promote low-carbon methods and materials, including the solar structures we design and build.
Everyone on an ACERO site has the authority, and the duty, to stop work they believe is unsafe. No one at ACERO is penalised for using it.
How we put it into practice
Our procedures, work instructions and forms turn the policy into daily routine, and leave a record that clients and inspectors can check.
- 01
Risk assessment
Every job is assessed for hazards before work starts, and the assessment is shared with the client.
- 02
Method statements
Each activity has a written sequence of work with hold points, equipment, PPE and emergency arrangements.
- 03
Permits to work
Work at risk, such as hot work, work at height and confined spaces, only starts under a permit.
- 04
Pre-job briefings
Crews are briefed on the day’s hazards and controls before starting, and toolbox talks are recorded.
- 05
Site inspections
Planned inspections, unannounced visits and joint safety tours with clients, each with a written report.
- 06
Incident reporting
Incidents and near-misses are reported without fear of blame, investigated and turned into lessons learned.
- 07
Emergency preparedness
Emergency plans for every site, with equipment and instructions tested on a regular schedule.
- 08
Audit and review
Internal audits, QHSE objectives and indicators, and a quarterly management review led by the General Manager.
